Southern England Regional Council

Welcome

The Southern England Regional Council (SERC) operates under the auspices of Irish Dancing's ruling body, An Coimisiún Le Rincí Gaelacha, based in Dublin, Ireland. It consists of registered teachers and lay members elected from within the Region. See the Contact page for a list of current members and their roles.

The Council's primary task is to promote and support Irish dancing in the Southern England Region, which covers Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Essex, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Kent, London & Greater London, Middlesex, Oxfordshire, Surrey, Sussex and Wiltshire. On a practical level, it is responsible for providing a structure within which Irish dancing operates in the Region.

Importantly, the Council provides a voice for the Region's teachers and dancers by sending representatives to regular An Coimisiún meetings. SERC also organises and runs the highly successful Great Britain Championships each year, as well as the Region's World Championship qualifying competition - the Oireachtas.

This website is intended to be a central source of information for everyone involved in Irish dancing in southern England, including dancers and their families, registered dance teachers and adjudicators, and anyone else with an interest in Irish dancing. There are pages with general information for the public, and dedicated areas accessible only to registered teachers and/or Council members.
